Increasing Medicare Enrollment Causes Headaches for MedSup Payers
St. Paul, Minnesota - October 11, 2011 - With an aging population Medicare enrollment is expanding and affecting all areas of the healthcare industry. The increase in Medicare patients has lead to growing MedSup payment headaches for Medicare MedSup Payers in the form of duplicate claims and duplicate payments. Smart Data Solutions, a Minnesota-based provider of data processing solutions for the health care industry, has expanded is services to prevent these expensive duplicates by automatically comparing the ICN of any EOB entering the system.
The process for accepting MedSup forms is a complex one. It begins with providers sending an electronic 837 requesting payment to the payer. However, if payment is not received within a certain timeframe providers often submit paper claims in addition to electronic. This frequently results in costly duplicate payments on a single claim.
Smart Data's new solution will prevent these costly duplicates. SDS does this by first taking the electronic 837 off the provider's claim management system and capturing the data from the form while documenting the ICN. Then if any paper claim is received Smart Data compares the paper claim ICN with previously received ICNs. If any duplicate documents are found they are deleted and reported back to the client.
"Many of our clients have already implemented this process and seen significant savings," explained Pat Bollom, Smart Data's co-owner. "As the influence of Medicare on the healthcare industry increases we expect to see many more implementations."
